Tibiofibular ligament
Though it does not span across the ankle joint itself, the syndesmotic ligament makes an important contribulation to the stability of ankle.
This ligament spans the syndesmosis(the articulation between the medial aspect of distal fibular and the lateral aspect of the distal tibia).
An isolated injury to this ligament is often called high ankle sprain.

Posterior tibiofibular ligament
Between malleolar fossa of the fibula to the posteror edge of the tibia
Prevents the leg to slide foreword on the talus under the influence of gravity when the foot is plantar flexed at the take off stage in walking.
